Friedrich Miescher institute scholarships to study in Switzerland 2024The Friedrich Miescher Institute, affiliated with the University of Basel and the Institutes Novartis for Biomedical Research (NIBR), has the honor to announce to the in – ternational public the opening of applications for its scholarships program for the academic year 2024-2024.

The IMF offers both a doctoral program and an MD-PhD program. The doctoral program accepts students with a university degree in life sciences or any related field, the MD-PhD program is designed for medical students interested in basic scientific research.

Both programs offer students the opportunity to conduct cutting-edge biomedical research in a stimulating, highly international and collaborative atmosphere.

The Friedrich Miescher Institute provides financial support to students in accordance with the scale of the Swiss National Science Foundation. The salary is generous by international standards for doctoral students.

PROGRAMS AVAILABLE AT THE FRIEDRICH MIESCHER INSTITUTE

the Friedrich Miescher Institute, in collaboration with the Biozentrum of the University of Basel, the Department of Biomedicine of the University of Basel, the Department of Biosystems Science and Engineering (D-BSSE) of ETH and the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (TPH), offers an international and interdisciplinary higher education program in the fields of:

  2. Cell biology
  3. Developmental biology
  4. Biophysical chemistry
  5. Structural biology
  6. Systems biology
  7. Bioinformatics
  8. Biology of infections

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Doctoral program :

Applicants must hold, or expect to receive prior to enrollment, a university degree that would formally qualify them to enter a doctorate or equivalent program in their home country (master’s, diploma, DEA, etc.).

MD-PHD Program (Doctorate in Medicine and Philosophy) 

Applicants must have studied, or expect to receive prior to enrollment, medicine and hold a university degree that would formally qualify them for clinical training in their home country (medical degree, approval, etc.). It is strongly recommended having documented research laboratory experience. Interested students can devote up to 20% of their doctoral time to clinical work.

CALENDAR

The study programs at the Friedrich Miescher Institute leading to a doctorate from the University of Basel usually last from four to five years.

The deadline for applications is May 2, 2024. Interviews will take place in June 2024.

The application procedure is the same for the doctorate and the MD-PhD program. A group of shortlisted candidates will be invited for online interviews in June.
